Tot Lot Summer Program is geared for kids who are entering kindergarten in the fall of 2019. There are many opportunities for art, movement, songs, stories, and play. The program will also address important academic components that your child will experience the first quarter of school: reading strategies, letter recognition, letter sounds, number recognition, handwriting practice, journal writing, sitting at a table to do short spurts of independent work, and waiting your turn to share in a group setting.

Being an enthusiastic learner is one of the greatest predictors of academic success. Our Kindergarten program has been designed to specifically so that your child can investigate, explore, ask questions and take initiative for learning about the world.

Our warm and educationally focused classrooms will allow him to persist in hands-on math, science and social studies activities that interest him/her and arouse their natural curiosity. Their self-confidence will soar as he/she is given ample opportunities to make decisions about what materials to use and when to use them. Our teachers will be there to guide, support and challenge them, answer their questions and nurture their love for learning.

Pre-Kindergarten Readiness

Your child is approaching an exciting milestone and the adventure of a lifetime! Our fun and challenging Pre-Kindergarten program is designed specifically to promote his readiness for learning, assurance in social situations, and a mastery of many fine and gross motor skills; all of which will benefit him when he/she moves into the school arena. Our skilled and nurturing teachers will offer a variety of both independent and cooperative learning opportunities as well as provide for generous outdoor playtime to ensure his future academic success.

At Flint Community Schools (FCS) our dedicated and experienced teachers provide a stimulating and creative educational environment for our children. Our developmentally appropriate practices provide for the overall intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of each child. We provide a well-rounded program within our warm, positive and caring learning environment to prepare for their school years. We instill in our children a LOVE FOR LEARNING! Flint Community Schools Early Childhood Program is offered in (9) nine district schools: Brownell S.T.E.M. Academy, Doyle Ryder Elementary, Durant-Tuuri-Mott, Eisenhower Elementary, Freeman Elementary, Holmes S.T.E.M. (Pre-K), Neithercut Elementary, Pierce Elementary and Potter Elementary.

The pre-k and kindergarten programs provide support for FCS children and families.  A social emotional curriculum is used to teach skills to help children manage feeling, cooperate, and solve problems. If additional support is warranted.

Flint Community Schools provide a safe and healthy environment. As part of our services, our nursing team provides health-rated screening and services for all students.  They also educate children, parents, and staff about safety, nutrition, and appropriate health topics. The district is fortunate to have so many supports offered to our students and families.

Flint Community Schools is delighted that your child is part of our early childhood family! We look forward to getting to know each child as we grow together this year. Our program will provide each child with a safe and loving learning environment. Each day will be filled with fun and exciting adventures to help your child develop and grow. Each class will be learning and exploring many concepts and studies throughout this year, and we are excited to begin our successful journey together.
